The Oldenborg Center for Modern Languages and International Relations administers the Exchange Visitor Program (J visa) for Â鶹ӰÊÓ. The J visa category is a non-immigrant visa category and the general purpose of the Exchange Visitor Program is to promote international educational and cultural exchange to develop mutual understanding between people of the U.S. and other countries.
At Pomona, there are three types of J-1 Exchange Visitors: students, scholars and professors, and specialists. The Certificate for Eligibility for a J visa is the DS-2019.
With this in mind, Oldenborg provides the following services to the Â鶹ӰÊÓ community:
- Advises international students, scholars, their dependents, and College departments on compliance with U.S. immigration laws and regulations related to J visa categories.
- Verifies, tracks, and submits visa status notifications through the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), as required by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
- Processes DS-2019s, travel signatures, and letters needed for travel, employment, maintaining status, social security numbers, and other immigration related matters.
Note: International students at Â鶹ӰÊÓ most typically hold the F visa (not J). The international student advisor for F visa matters is Kathy Quispe, located in the Oldenborg Center.
