Study Abroad & Off-Campus Credit

Study Abroad and Non-Pomona Major/Minor Credit Guidelines:

  1. Study abroad. Up to 2 electives are typically considered for credit toward the major and 1 elective typically considered for credit toward the minor. In unusual cases, lab or seminar courses may be considered, with advisor approval. Statistics, research methods, thesis, and the culture/ethnicity requirement may not be completed abroad. Advisors must receive a syllabus or course description for any course to be considered for major or minor credit and students should meet with their advisor prior to seeking chair approval.
  2. Off-campus (non-transfer) major/minor credit. Advisor approval is required for off-campus (i.e., non-Pomona) credit to satisfy major or minor requirements. Courses outside of the Claremont Colleges are less commonly approved for major or minor credit. In most cases, statistics, research methods, and the culture/ethnicity requirement should be completed at Pomona. Advisors should receive a syllabus or course description for any course to be considered for major or minor credit and students should meet with their advisor prior to seeking chair approval.
  3. Transfer credit. Transfer students who plan to major or minor in psychological science should consult with a psychology faculty member early in their course planning to discuss transfer credits, which may be considered separately from other non-Pomona course credits. Transfer students who plan to major in psychological science are encouraged to identify a psychology faculty major advisor early in their course planning; ideally in the first semester of enrolling.
