The senior exercise is satisfied by enrolling in and successfully completing the Senior Literature Review (Philosophy 190). In consultation with faculty, each senior student selects a philosophical issue or question to investigate and a) researches the relevant readings, b) presents and discusses these readings with other senior philosophy students and philosophy faculty at regular meetings, c) periodically submits précis of their readings and d) at the end of the semester completes a written comprehensive explanation of the current literature on student's topic. See a detailed description of the Senior Literature Review.
A senior thesis, which is optional and completed in addition to the required Literature Review, provides the opportunity to investigate a philosophical issue in greater depth. See a more detailed description of the Thesis Guidelines and deadlines.
