Isys Johnson (PO '20, CS and Mathematics) was recently awarded an NSF GRFP! recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) disciplines who are pursuing research-based master's and doctoral degrees at accredited US institutions. This five-year fellowship includes three years of financial support including an annual stipend of $34,000 and a cost of education allowance of $12,000 to the applicant's institution.
Isys is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Computer Science at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Her successful proposal titled "Analysis of Causal Inference Models through Structured Matrices" will provide funding for her to work with SUNY Buffalo Computer Science Professor Atri Rudra fully funded from 2022 - 2027 on problems related to structured linear algebra with applications in machine learning.
