Â鶹ӰÊÓ is committed to equity in the college experience for all of our students. To help foster a successful transition for first-generation and low-income students, the College has developed a number of cohort-based programs.
The Academic Cohorts, as we refer to them, are mostly characterized by weekly group meetings, regular individual advising sessions, peer mentors, and even enhanced course options.
Each program is unique, and below is a brief description of each.
Pomona Scholars of Science (PSS)
PSS is primarily for students interested in pre-health disciplines, or those who are planning on taking biology and chemistry in their first semester. Students in the program also are encouraged and supported financially to pursue summer research after their first year in college.
How to get involved: Students who are eligible will be contacted by the College. If you have not been contacted and are interested, please email Travis Brown.
Pomona Scholars of Math (PSM)
PSM is for those who are thinking of pursuing a degree in mathematics, physics, computer science or economics. Even if you aren’t sure what field you might major in, if you have a love of all things numerical, PSM is for you.
How to get involved: Students who are eligible will be contacted by the College. If you have not been contacted and are interested, please email Travis Brown.
Posse Chicago and Posse Miami
Since 2004, Pomona has welcomed cohorts of students from Chicago each fall semester through the Posse Scholars program, and our first Miami cohort began in Fall 2015. Posse scholars are not dedicated, at first, to any particular field, and their interests range from history and dance to physics and astronomy.
How to get involved: Posse students are nominated by their high school or a community organization while in high school. Visit for more information.
