7 p.m. "The Intimate Technology of Remote Vision: Conflict Far Away and Close Up," a lecture by Susanna Newbury
This lecture is an expansion of Susanna Newbury’s catalogue essay for Incendiary Traces, titled “The Intimate Technology of Remote Vision,” which explicitly compares Goya's strategies in Disasters of War and his other works to the terms of Hillary Mushkin's project in the context of global surveillance and image cultures of disaster.
Susanna Newbury is Assistant Professor of Contemporary Art History, Criticism & Theory at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her book Speculations: Art, Real Estate, and Global Los Angeles is forthcoming from the University of Minnesota Press
