Sven Haakanson will speak on his work with indigenous material culture through practices of traditional craftsmanship and reverse engineering. Haakanson, a specialist in documenting and preserving the language and culture of the Alutiiq, is Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Washington and Curator of Native American Anthropology at the Burke Museum. Haakanson was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2007.
