A Guided Meditation Marathon
A Guided Meditation Marathon will feature the uplifting, inspirational Zen slaps of several charismatic experimental artists and writers from Los Angeles: Johnnie JungleGuts, Mathew Timmons, and UNFO (The Unauthorized Narrative Freedom Organization) aka Amanda Ackerman & Harold Abramowitz. The inaugural Guided Meditation Marathon was hosted at The Free Church of Public Fiction in Highland Park on Easter 2011, and featured twelve meditations over ten hours.
A Guided Meditation Marathon is co-sponsored by the experimental meditation center of los angeles and The Los Angeles Meditation Ghostwriters Guild (L.A.M.G.G.).
Amanda Ackerman is the author of four chapbooks: Sin is to Celebration (co-author, House Press), The Seasons Cemented (Hex Presse), I Fell in Love with a Monster Truck (Insert Press Parrot #8), and Short Stones (Dancing Girl Press). She is co-publisher and co-editor of the press eohippus labs. She also writes collaboratively as part of the projects SAM OR SAMANTHA YAMS and UNFO.
Harold Abramowitz is from Los Angeles. His books and chapbooks include (!x==[33]) Book 1, Volume 1 by .UNFO (collaboration with Dan Richert, Blanc Press, 2011), A House on a Hill (A House on a Hill Part One) (Insert Press, 2010), Not Blessed (Les Figues Press, 2010), and Dear Dearly Departed (Palm Press, 2008). Harold co-edits the short-form literary press eohippus labs (), and writes and edits as part of the collaborative projects, SAM OR SAMANTHA YAMS and UNFO.
Johnnie JungleGuts is an artist living and working in the Los Angeles area. He hosts the conservation radio talk show Jungle Guts on Kchung radio and fronts the animal welfare hardcore punk band American Grizzly. In his ongoing performance project, Touched, Johnnie JungleGuts eschews the wall of the gallery and chooses to display his watercolors by passing them around in a circle while singing acapella. Johnnie JungleGuts also runs Open Drawing, an experimental group drawing club that happens on Monday nights at the Concord gallery. The recurring subject matter of Johnnie JungleGuts' work is animals and also their relationships with people. Although he is not an optimistic person, his artwork is often hopeful.
Mathew Timmons' books include Joyful Noise for three or more voices (Jaded Ibis 2012), The New Poetics (Les Figues 2010), Sound Noise (Little Red Leaves 2010), CREDIT (Blanc Press 2009), Lip Service (Slack Buddha 2008), and The Archanoids (a CD of solo and collaborative sound poetries 2010). Forthcoming books include Where is it Written? (Imipolex Press), and After DarÃo (Phoneme Books). His visual and performance work has been shown at Weekend Gallery, Human Resources Gallery, Shoshana Wayne, Public Fiction, François Ghebaly Gallery, (323) Projects, LACE, Museum of Contemporary Art Denver, California College of Art, Outpost for Contemporary Art, ArtSpeak Vancouver, LACMA, UCLA Hammer Museum and as part of ArtLA. Mathew works as the General Director of General Projects and as the editor & publisher of Insert Blanc Press.
