We are delighted to welcome our third cohort of AllPaper Seminar fellows! As the program focuses on emerging professionals in the southwestern region, our fellows will join us from as far away as Texas and as near as our backyard. Over the course of the spring, the fellows will participate in a two-part program that brings undergraduates and recent graduates together with established professionals to learn about the stewardship of works on paper.

The AllPaper Seminar at the Benton Museum of Art at �鶹Ӱ�� is made possible with support from the Tavolozza Foundation and the Getty through its Paper Project initiative.

Emma Balda is an emerging art professional originally from San Diego, California and currently based out of Los Angeles. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in sociology and public history from Loyola Marymount University. Emma’s research focuses on the intersection between sites of public history and national identity building, specifically looking at the role of Orientalism in French nation building following the French Revolution. Currently, she is the Getty Marrow Repatriation and Curatorial Assistant at the Autry Museum of the American West.

Diego Borgsdorf Fuenzalida is a Chilean-American experimental museum ethnographer from Los Angeles. He is in his final semester of Pitzer College, working towards a degree in Anthropology and Spanish. His research weaves together experimental ethnography and textile art to represent the affective challenges of exhibiting violent pasts in Chilean memorial museums. Diego has worked in diverse collections management and programming roles at LACE, the Museo de la Memoria y los Derechos Humanos, and the NPS.

Cecelia Chavez is a senior undergraduate at The University of Arizona pursuing a double major of a B.A. in studio art and a B.A. in environmental studies. Born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, she has a special connection to the southwest and a love for her hometown and its culture. She is interested broadly in printmaking, and exploring the ways that traditional printmaking methods can be utilized and revived in contemporary art.

Corey Solorio LoDuca (they/she/he) is a senior art history major at Scripps College and an emerging cultural worker. They have been a Getty Marrow Undergraduate Intern at the J. Paul Getty Museum and LACE (Los Angeles Contemporary Exhibitions). Corey spent her Spring 2023 semester in the Arizona/México borderlands through Earlham College’s Border Studies Program. This experience is shaping his thesis research on contemporary border art from a critical disability studies lens. They currently work at Ella Strong Denison Library as an archivist.

Samantha Alexis Manuel (she/her/siya), recently graduated with a BA in Communications, Art History, and Digital Humanities from UCLA. Connecting arts, technology, and activism, her VR capstone, In Discrete Fashion: Garment Workers of LA, was featured in UCLA Undergraduate Research Week 2023. She held roles at LACMA, LACE, and the Getty Museum, organizing the inaugural exhibition, Our Voices, Our Getty: Reflecting on Drawings. As Executive Assistant at Arts for LA and Arts Associate at the Los Angeles Municipal Art Gallery, she supports exhibitions, programming, and arts advocacy.

Avani Sastry is a Master's student in art history at the University of Texas at Austin. In 2021, she graduated summa cum laude from Trinity University with a bachelor's degree in art history. Her research focuses on modern and contemporary South Asian art, specifically photography, artists books, and diasporic engagements with South Asian art history. Previously, she has held positions at Christie's, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.

Evelyn Bea is a recent graduate of University of California, Berkeley with a B.A. in Anthropology. With a commitment to decolonization and cultural inclusivity, she is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science. Evelyn aspires to contribute to archives and museums, promoting diverse perspectives in cultural heritage and cultivating knowledge and resources for the community.

Eva Caston (she/her) received her BA from University of Michigan in 2020, and her MA from the University of Texas at Austin in 2023, both in Art History. She is interested in how the urban landscape and natural spaces are remapped within the space of the artist book. Her current research looks at the artists Cecilia Vicuña and Regina Vater, who in the 1970s reappropriated trash and waste collected along city streets and beaches for their site-specific work.

Danielle Gorodenzik is a Los Angeles-born and raised curator focused on feminism, photography, and artist books. She participated in the Activate Protege Arts for LA Arts Advocacy Leadership Program 2023. Danielle is the Director of In Print Art Book Fair, Jerusalem, and was the former Director of Collections at the Africa First Collection. She holds a B.A. in Communication Design from Parsons School of Design and an M.A. in Curatorial Studies from Bezalel Academy of Art and Design.

Jennifer Ly (she/her) holds a bachelor’s degree in art history from California State University, Long Beach and currently works as a Junior Collections Management Technician at the Los Angeles County Museum Of Art. As an emerging art historian and museum professional, she is especially interested in the preservation of cultural heritage for greater accessibility. She intends to explore how paper mediums act as vital points of artistic access, through their ubiquity in daily life.

Madison Quiroz is a Chicana artist and arts administrator from Los Angeles, CA. She currently serves as Administrative Coordinator at Self Help Graphics and Art located in Boyle Heights, CA. She received her BA in Art History and Chicana/o Studies from the University of California, Los Angeles. Using ballpoint pen as her primary medium, her artistic practice is heavily influenced by pinto art, tattoo culture, and the Chicana experience.

Victoria Vargas is a first-generation Mexican-American graduate from UCLA with a B.A. in Anthropology and a minor in Spanish. She grew up in South Los Angeles and works as an archaeological aide, studying cultural objects and historical documents. She also works with a museum curator to help with collections and leading tours.
