Community Message: Weather, Fires, Impacts

Dear Â鶹ӰÊÓ community:

This is not the first message I had planned to share with you as acting president of the College.

But I wanted to reach out immediately to express my care for our community given the devastation Southern California is experiencing due to fires and fierce winds in the last two days.

The fires have affected multiple members of our community, some evacuating as a precautionary measure, and others have lost their homes due to fires. The College has been in touch with many of them and is exploring other options to help at this critical time for our employees and their families. For those who have been severely impacted by fires or high winds and haven’t yet done so, please report with our HR lead Alejandra Gaytan at alejandra.gaytan@pomona.edu.

We ask supervisors to continue to check in with their staff and remain flexible with employees as they continue to be affected by the high winds and fires.

A reminder to all employees, that our Employee Assistance Program is a valuable resource for those who are looking for support: . Access code: Claremontcolleges

Our campus lost power overnight on Tuesday but continued running with our own generators through Wednesday morning. Power has been restored by Southern California Edison and continues to run without problems. Our students who are on campus are safe and doing well. I’m also happy to report that campus sustained no visible damage or downed trees. Our campus did experience significant winds that scattered a great deal of debris. I wish to extend a heartfelt thanks to our staff who can be seen across campus today taking remarkable care of our facilities and grounds.

Please see the original email of this message for more resources available to our employees as well as our remote work policy. I encourage you to reach out and take advantage of these support systems.

Best wishes,

Bob
