After the Verdict

Dear Â鶹ӰÊÓ Community,

This can be a step forward, a beginning.

First, let’s acknowledge the trial of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd has been a painful experience for so many people across the world, no more so than for Mr. Floyd’s loved ones. I ask that you all keep them in your hearts and minds.

With this verdict, it is my sincerest hope that our country and world start to change for the better, and that the ways our communities engage with law enforcement are altered forever. No one deserves to live in fear that a few seconds, or in this case, nearly 10 devastating minutes, could end your life violently.

I am inviting you all to join me on Friday at noon (more details to come) to talk together once we have had a chance to both process and look to the future. So much more lies ahead in the work of justice and change in our nation. Let us take a moment, and let us move forward until there are no more horrific killings like this one, no more families and communities forced to mourn and there is no longer a need for trials like this one.

Sincerely,

Gabi
